San Carlos Elms FAQ
  • What is your staff-to-resident ratio?

We have 89 apartments and a staff of over 80 employees, of which approximately 50 employees are on duty each day.

  • Do you check on your residents?

Residents are monitored based on their need and the care plan devised by our nurse, in coordination with the resident, doctor and family. If a resident is independent and not in need of care services our Dining Staff ensure residents receive meal services and are monitored.

  • Do residents bring their own linens? Wash their own?

Linen service is included in the monthly fee and provided every week. This service can occur more frequently if needed. Residents are permitted to bring their own personal sheets and towels. Residents may wash their personal items free of charge in one of our Resident Laundry Rooms.
  • Are we able to cater to special diets?

Yes, special diets can be provided on a regular or as needed basis.

  • Do residents have to take three meals a day? Are residents assigned seating?

All meals are included in the monthly fee; breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Residents are not required to eat all three meals. Residents can sit at any open seat in the Dining Room. The seating is not assigned, but residents choose to sit in particular seats - so, residents assign themselves. Room Service is also available.

  • Do we have a community fee or lease?

There is no Community Fee, nor lease. Our apartments are rented on a month-to-month basis only.

  • Could we move to a larger apartment later on?

Residents residing within the community have first choice of vacancy.
  • Could we come any time to visit or stay for a meal?

Visitors are welcome anytime. If you would like to stay for a meal, please make reservations through our Front Desk. If you would like to stay overnight, please contact the Front Desk and we will provide a rollaway bed at no charge.

  • Do we order or pick up medications?

Residents and families can order and pick up medication. However, medication refills can be ordered by our staff. New medications can be ordered by our staff with a prescription. We will order medication through your pharmacy of choice or utilize our pharmacy with delivery service.

  • Where does the transportation go?

We travel as far north as Burlingame and as far south as Palo Alto, covering hospitals, clinics, doctors' offices and shopping centers. Residents are transported in our 15 passenger, wheelchair accessible, shuttle or sedan. Transportation is provided daily and included in your basic monthly fee.
